WASHINGTON, DC: Joy Behar, a co-host of ‘The View,’ on Thursday called for using the 25th Amendment of the US Constitution to remove President Donald Trump from office.
Her reaction came after Trump unveiled plaques with political messages under presidential portraits at the White House, many of which criticized former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama.
Behar’s comments reflect the widespread backlash against Trump following his decision to add disparaging plaques that directly targeted his predecessors.
Joy Behar takes aim at Trump’s plaques
Behar’s remarks came in response to Trump’s addition of new bronze plaques along the White House’s “Presidential Walk of Fame.”
The plaques included pointed messages about Biden and Obama. One plaque under Biden’s portrait labeled him “the worst president in American history,” while Obama was described as “one of the most divisive political figures.” Even former allies were mentioned; Ronald Reagan’s plaque noted he “was a fan” of Trump long before his presidency
According to ABC News, the plaques, many reportedly written by Trump himself, line a portrait gallery along the West Wing Colonnade. White House staff said they reflect Trump’s ongoing efforts to personalize the White House and enshrine his opinions of former presidents in stone.
Joy Behar demands a constitutional remedy
During Thursday’s episode of ‘The View,’ Behar said, “When are they going to invoke the 25th Amendment? Does he have to run naked into the White House or what? What is that amendment for if not for this?”
The 25th Amendment allows for the removal of a president who is unable to perform official duties due to incapacity. It can be invoked if a president dies, resigns, or is deemed unfit for office.
Her comments drew laughter from the studio audience, reflecting widespread frustration with the plaques.
Behar also noted, “I want to read what he says about Barack Obama because we love Barack Obama, and it’s wrong of him,” as the audience applauded.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg had previously called for the 25th Amendment against Trump earlier this year after his address to the United Nations General Assembly, criticizing his presidential conduct.
The controversial plaques have reignited discussions about how presidential history and predecessors are portrayed within the White House. Many critics argue that the inscriptions represent Trump’s attempt to rewrite history and publicly disparage former leaders.
